Power

Power, in all of its manifestations, continues to be a huge source of fascination and intrigue. But it is not spoken of enough when it comes to organizational effectiveness or dysfunction. It is one elephant in the room that many are not willing or able to fully understand, think about or discuss.

Leaders create and reinforce overt and covert systems and ways of working that operate whether we pay attention to them or not. We are often not aware of or willing to admit how influential these systems are in shaping our behaviour.

Effective leadership requires an intentional balance. Between humility and driving results…between gaining alignment and action-orientation…between challenging your team and being a deep listener and reflective practitioner.

Co-creating and communicating a crystal clear mission, a commitment to self-awareness, customer focus…and adapting your leadership style to fit your team, remain key opportunities for leaders attempting to make big things happen.

So simple. So challenging. And so worth it.
